Hattersley will be transformed in an exciting series of developments covering 27 sites (25 hectares, the equivalent of 36 football pitches), scheduled to commence in late 2007 and be completed by 2014.
The investment in Hattersley is estimated to be in the region of £250m, and will be primarily residential but will also feature significant commercial development. The centrepiece will be the new District Centre, which will accommodate retail and other facilities to meet the needs of the local community.
Enhancements to the environment, parking, safety and public spaces will also feature within a ‘purpose built’ infrastructure, fit for the 21st century.
Around 830 new private ‘for sale’ dwellings will be built, which alongside the public rented accommodation currently provided, will help to re-populate the area – with a range of households in terms of age, income level and family size.
The new residential developments will also be complemented by a £40m, seven-year refurbishment programme to former Manchester City Council housing. This will be carried out by the new Registered Social Landlord – Peak Valley Housing (a subsidiary of Contour Housing Group Ltd.) which took ownership of the properties in September 2006.
