Housing

The attraction of new residents to re-populate the area is key to creating a sustainable community in Hattersley.

In demand

In 2005 Manchester City Council defined Hattersley as an 'in demand' housing area. This, together with the healthy interest from potential development partners, means that the future looks bright for Hattersley.

The estimated £250m investment is set to change the face of the area with the majority earmarked for housing.

Refurbishment

The refurbishment of former Manchester City Council housing stock, now owned by local Registered Social Landlord Peak Valley Housing Association, will see a seven-year programme and investment in the region of £40m.

New build

Further major investment in over 830 new build ‘for sale’ properties will bring a range of dwellings with services, community facilities and transport in place to complete a purpose built environment.

The first private homes built in Hattersley for over 40 years were officially opened in January 2006 at Deerwood Vale, Clough End Road. These were built by Contour Housing and are a mix of bungalows and three and four bed houses.

This was followed by a further Contour housing development that saw thirty two new houses for sale, built at the Meadows at Broadbottom Road.

The social housing development at John Kennedy Gardens was also completed in 2006, with sixteen two bed bungalows built, mainly to accommodate residents affected by selective demolition.

Contour is also building fourteen new bungalows for rent for the over 55's on three other local sites, with anticipated completion in March 2008.
