Initiatives, which began in 1997, are now bringing significant improvement in attainment at all levels, equipping young people for a bright future:
Hattersley primary schools now show better attainment than the borough average and secondary attainment is also rising dramatically.
| Education | Increase in achievement 2003–2005 |
| Key stage 1 results | 6.5% |
| Key stage 2 results | 10.2% |
| GCSE A–C grades | 15.1% |
Encouragingly, more local young people now enter education, employment or training when they leave school at 16.
In addition, a comprehensive range of local recreational activities are supporting the physical, social and educational development of young people.
