In Hattersley, Community Safety is defined as:
“Any issue that could harm property and people, whether it be health, injury, death or mental well-being”
Thanks to a range of proactive community safety initiatives Hattersley is one of the safest areas in Greater Manchester with burglary down by 63 per cent and total crime down 14 per cent between 2001 and 2005.
The Hattersley Community Safety Resource Centre - a base for all involved in community safety, opened in June 2005 and is managed by a local resident, working closely with the Community Beat Manager, Community Support Officers, Patrollers, local Housing Associations and others.
The Community Safety Theme Group continues to be the forum that links residents' very local issues with service providers.
