Hattersley enjoys a wide range of leisure opportunities, many arranged by the 40 or so local community groups. Activities include:

Young people
Some leisure activities are aimed at younger people with ‘Out of School Clubs’, the 5-13s group and Youth Services and faith groups providing a range of options at places like Hattersley Cyber Café.
Older people
Older people have groups such as the over 50s club, residents club at the older peoples sheltered accommodation, as well as nostalgia groups.
Sport
Hattersley has a strong sporting tradition and an impressive range of opportunities for all levels and ages.
Many of these are facilitated by the Active Hattersley community group which works closely with Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership’s Sport in the Community initiative.

Development and Management of sport facilities including:
- Opening of the £1million Ken Ward Sports Centre in September 2006 attracting 500+ visitors per week
- The Gym - refurbished in 20076 with new showers and equipment
- Completion of clubhouse facilities at Hattersley Bowling Green
- Creation and updating of the www.hattersleysports.co.uk website
Development and delivery of initiatives including
- Hattersley Primary School Four Seasons Games
- Summer sports camps - over 300 attending since 2002
- Hal-term holiday Multi sports sessions
- North West Street Games - involving 180 people 2003 - 2006
- Sport in the Community Certificate day release scheme for young people
- Attainment of range of qualifications including; football fitness, driving and NVQ's in sport and recreation
- Support with event management and fund raising for community groups
- Appointment of Community Leisure Development Officer to build on achievements
- Continued success of Hattersley FC - with six teams from under 10's to veterans
