
Hattersley has a joined-up approach to local health issues - from helping people get better access to information and services to the promotion of leisure opportunities and healthy lifestyles.
Hattersley’s Health & Leisure Theme Group is coordinating action and working with residents, groups and professionals to identify issues & action and raise awareness of health issues and choices.
Their overall aim is to:
Increase the quality of life and life expectancy of local people by improving health and reducing health inequalities.
Current priorities are to;
- Increase levels of physical activity
- Improve nutrition, oral health and tackle obesity
- Increase smoking cessation rates
- Reduce teenage pregnancy rates
- Promote positive mental health
Examples of recent work include:
- Mainstreaming Connect 4 Life Scheme, with Health Coach and appointment of Lifestyle Facilitators
- Coordination and support of healthy lifestyle initiatives including smoking cessation and a range of physical activity sessions
- Support for formation and development of leisure groups
- Supporting schools to archive Healthy Choice Awards
- Training Children's Centre staff in smoking cessation
- Involving over 200 residents the 'World Mental Health Day'
- Improved attendance at cardiac rehabilitation sessions
- Introduction of Nappy Stop/Safety Scheme
- Safety equipment and information available through Children's Centre
