Community (or Social) issues cover many areas that are of greatest priority and importance for local people.
The community in Hattersley is active through a number of groups and works with Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership on community initiatives covering:
Children and young people
We have a strong history of action in this area which has been helped by Early Years work by Sure Start Hattersley, multi-agency work with 5–13 year olds and sustained efforts to improve educational performance at all levels.
Older people
Hattersley has a higher percentage of older people in its population than the Tameside average. This means that we must do more to make sure that we meet their needs.
Community safety
Consistently classified as one of the safest areas in Greater Manchester – Hattersley benefits from local volunteers working with the police and other ‘safety’ professionals on a wide range of issues.
Health
Hattersley benefits from the support of the local Primary Care Trust, residents and other partners – taking a joined-up approach to health issues.
Leisure
Leisure activities cut across many of aspects of local work. Work ranges from various activities for children and huge investment in local sport, to more educational opportunities.
