Sport & Leisure
Hattersley enjoys a wide range of leisure activities including – dance, art, crafts and walking groups as well as a wide range of sport activities.
Young People
There are many activities for younger people with the 5-13s Club and organisations such as Youth Services, Greater Manchester Police and faith groups providing a range of activities at Hattersley Cyber Café and other venues.
Older People
Many older people take advantage of local leisure courses and activities and groups such as the over 50s club, Mancunian Reunion Social Group and the Ivy Club, which meets every Tuesday for music dance and bingo.
Sports
Hattersley has a strong sporting tradition and an impressive range of opportunities for all levels and ages. Many of the sporting activities are arranged and managed by resident volunteers working closely with Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership’s Sport in the Community initiative.
Great strides have been made in providing activities and facilities in recent years with the arrival of the £1million Ken Ward Sports Centre in September 2006 being followed by the £3.1m Phase 2 development of the centre, which opened in June 2010.
The multi-sports and leisure facility features a sports hall, sauna and steam room, a dance studio and many other state of the art facilities to ensure that it continues to be a focus for local sport and leisure activity and a big attraction for local people and those further afield.
The opening of the new Ken Ward Sports Centre came hot on the heels of the opening of the Tameside Gymnastics Centre in Mottram in January 2010 – which has quickly become a popular and well used facility.
The Health and Leisure Theme Group is responsible for coordinating action on sport and leisure activities on behalf of a wide range of partners working with Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership. Click here for more information.
