Hattersley is steeped in history, and the name dates back more than 900 years when the area was mainly farmland.
Hattersley was mentioned in William the Conqueror's Domesday Book, (1085-86) a census that recorded English landowners and their property at the time.
Local people take great pride in the name and its history.
In the 1960s, Hattersley became the site for a brand new housing estate, built by Manchester City Council to re-house people from the housing clearance areas of east Manchester.
However, 30 years on, a journey round Hattersley revealed an area that had clearly suffered from the changing demand for social housing and under-investment in local services.
Regeneration in the area since the mid 1990s began a change in fortunes that has now led to the massive investment being secured which will see the area realise its huge potential.
