The regeneration of Hattersley is a key priority for Tameside Council and we have been working hard with our partners to create the conditions for major private sector investment in the area.
Because of this strong neighbourhood based partnership, over the last five years, schools have been replaced through the Private Finance Initiative, the borough’s first Sure Start scheme has been introduced, high quality sports facilities have been provided.
Significantly, the transfer of former Manchester City Council Housing stock to the local Peak Valley Housing Association, which took place in September 2006, will result in improvements to all social housing in the area.
Alongside this there has been significant investment and improvement in public services, with the area now one of the cleanest and safest neighbourhoods in Tameside, with top performing primary schools and served by two of the borough’s best high schools, Alder and Longdendale.
With its natural setting in the foothills of the Peak District, many green open spaces, its connection to the motorway network and its own station providing a short rail journey to Manchester city centre, the opportunity developed by the Council and its partners is fantastic.
