New Ken Ward Sports Centre – off the blocks |
HATTERSLEY’S new and improved Ken Ward Sports Centre opened its doors on 7th June – offering a wealth of first class sport and leisure facilities to local people and those further afield.
The 3.1m Phase 2 development is part of Tameside Council’s ongoing commitment to providing top class sports and leisure facilities across the borough and comes hot on the heels of the launch of the new Tameside Gymnastics Centre in Mottram.
With the original KWSC facility proving a resounding success since its launch in 2006, the new development has a sound base to build on – with many local residents already involved in, or supporting, a wide range of sport and leisure activities.
The KWSC is now set to build on this success and is offering a vastly improved range of facilities and activities – similar to those enjoyed by other facilities throughout Tameside.
The facility features a main sports hall, which is viewable from upper areas and can seat up to 600 people for functions and events. Add to this a health suite with sauna and steam rooms, a dance room, lecture rooms and a lounge area, and it’s not hard to forecast that the KWSC will become an even bigger attraction for local people and others across Tameside.
The KWSC, which is located next to Pinfold School on Hattersley Road East, will continue to be the home for the various teams that make up Hattersley FC and, with other groups and facilities, such as the Mottram and Hattersley Boxing Club and The Gym now under the same roof, the KWSC is now an even bigger focal point for sport and leisure activity.
Residents who join the gym can also tap into other sports and leisure facilities throughout Tameside, such as Hyde Swimming Baths, the Copley Centre and many other services provided by the Tameside Sports Trust. To find out more information on these offers click here
