Mancunian Reunion Wins Top Award |
THE Mancunian Reunion group received a reward for all their hard work and effort this week, by winning the region’s top award for community engagement.
After being put forward by Tameside Council, the group were awarded the prize, which is sponsored by North West Together We Can – a Government backed initiative promoting community engagement and empowerment for the region – the award recognises community groups who have been particularly prominent within their area and benefited the community as a whole.
Community Learning Coordinator Sharron Power said: “Winning this award shows just how far we have come in a relatively short space of time. We are all really proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.
“The group has enriched the community by helping people come together and celebrate the past, whilst also introducing them to new activities, interests and friends. With this award and the prestige it brings, the group can go from strength to strength within the area.”
The award is set to be presented in September in a special ceremony that will honour all the great work the group has done since being formed in 2006. A DVD is also to be produced, which will promote the project to other areas throughout the North West who want to put together a similar project
With another successful social night held at the Harehill Tavern at the end of February, the group are now looking forward to trips to Manchester Cathedral and Quarry Bank Mill in the near future.
