Step Ahead Showcase a Success

HATTERSLEY’S first ever Step Ahead Showcase event proved to be a big success, with over 100 local people paying a visit to see what was on offer.

The event, which took place on the 24th March focussed on the theme of Jobs, Training and Enterprise but also featured access to information and advice as well as guidance on volunteering, healthy lifestyles and leisure interests and courses.

Representatives from organisations such as ConnexionsTameside Volunteer Centre, Work Solutions and local colleges were on hand along with Step Ahead to give information and offer their services.

Community Learning Co-Ordinator Sharron Power said: “I am really pleased with how the first Step Ahead event turned out. The feedback from those attending was that they found the event really useful and nearly everyone who came signed up for something. It is really encouraging to see Step Ahead having a positive effect on so many people.”

With the event proving such as success, Step Ahead plans to hold further events in the future. Neighbourhood Manager Janet Frost said “The attendance was certainly encouraging and, coming off the back of the Hyde Jobs Fair held in January which 78 Hattersley residents attended, it proves a large number of residents are actively seeking work, training or other opportunities for advancement.

Our next task is to improve on this at the next Showcase and to continue our other work to encourage even more residents to take advantage of Step Ahead’s free, confidential advice information and guidance services.”
