HAVING heard of the positive work of Step Ahead Learning and Employment Champions Jean Chadwick and Lee Davies, the Mayor of Tameside; Councillor John Sullivan invited them for a tour of his private parlour.

The champions were among a dozen people invited for the event, which was put on especially by the council for workers who had gone that extra mile during the bad winter months.

The tour saw guests being shown around the historic building, which houses artefacts dating back centuries and were taught about the history of Tameside as well as being treated to tea and cakes.

Lee said: “It was a real treat to be able to go to the Mayor’s parlour. Its great to see that the excellent work Step Ahead are doing in Hattersley is appreciated and hopefully we can carry on delivering a great service for residents.”

During the tour the Mayor spoke of his appreciation of the fact that Step Ahead were still able to carry on their outreach service, visiting houses throughout the area despite the torrid weather conditions.
