Mancunian Reunion Up For Top Award

HATTERSLEY’S Mancunian Reunion group received a welcome fourth anniversary present with the news that Tameside Council had chosen them as their nomination for a prestigious award.

Sponsored by North West Together We Can – a Government backed initiative promoting community engagement and empowerment for the region – the award recognises community groups who have been particularly prominent within their area and benefited the community as a whole.

Community Learning Coordinator Sharron Power said: “Being put forward for this award by Tameside Council shows just how far we have come in a relatively short space of time. We are all really proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

“The group has enriched the community by helping people come together and celebrate the past, whilst also introducing them to new activities, interests and friends. Our meetings with people from other areas, trips to places of interest and social evenings are really popular and contribute to members enjoying an active social life.”

The group, which now boasts over 260 members, are set to visit other communities throughout the North West who are looking to put together similar projects, to share ideas.

With another successful social night held at the Harehill Tavern at the end of February, the group are now looking forward to trips to Manchester Cathedral and Quarry Bank Mill in the near future.
