New Gymnastic Centre Opens |
BUDDING Olympians throughout the borough are head over heels, following the opening of the new Tameside Gymnastics Centre.
The former Longdendale Recreation Centre has been transformed into a state-of-the-art dedicated gymnastics centre offering keen gymnasts a great opportunity to develop in their chosen discipline.
The Tameside Gymnastics Centre, located on Manley Grove, off John Kennedy Road in Mottram, offers classes and coaching for people of all ages and abilities, from Gym Tots all the way through to the Elite squad which allows for the premier gymnasts to compete at a county level.
So far the centre has proved to be a massive success with over 350 children signing up to classes, with many others on a waiting list and schools such as Arundale Primary and Stalyhill Infants (Stalybridge) also taking advantage of the new facilities.
The £1m centre, funded by Tameside council and managed by Tameside Sports Trust, is home to two large gym halls and a dance studio, which are already proving a hit with people from all over Tameside.
The refurbishment of the centre is part of Tameside Council’s on going commitment to providing top class sports and leisure facilities with an estimated £8m recently invested in upgrades throughout the borough. This has also seen the former Etherow Gymnastics Centre in Broadbottom starting a new life as the Etherow Bowling and Activities Centre as well as Hyde Leisure Pool benefitting from a major refurbishment and new and improved health and leisure facilities.
Locally, the eagerly awaited opening of the £3m Phase 2 development of the Ken Ward Sports Centre will feature a range of first class sports and leisure facilities.
Sessions at the Gymnastics Centre can be booked in advance, if you are interested in joining a class please contact the centre on: 01457 762 042.
